Letter to Trustees

Dear LMU Board of Trustees:

Pope Francis recently called for “the uncompromising witness of Catholic universities to the Church’s moral teaching, and the defense of her freedom, precisely in and through her institutions, to uphold that teaching as authoritatively proclaimed by the magisterium of her pastors.” As an expression of this uncompromising witness, we call on you to join in efforts, both publicly and privately, through legal and political means, to overturn the recent decision of the California Department of Managed Health Care. Specifically, we ask that you join the federal complaint filed by the California Catholic Conference in resisting the coercive and discriminatory action by the State of California directed at Loyola Marymount University’s abortion insurance decision. And we ask that you prepare for the possibility of an unsuccessful outcome to the federal complaint by exploring the establishment of, or participation in, a self-insurance plan not regulated by the California Department of Managed Health Care.

Sincerely,

  1. It is a grave concern that the University may not follow Catholic teachings and will succumb to the policies of the present administration, which is on a mission to destroy the principles this country was founded on.

  2. If the simple Little Sisters of the Poor have the guts and determination to get around the abortion and contraception mandate, then surely sophisticated LMU can.

  3. Thank you for addressing this matter. It is imperative that Catholic institutions be allowed to be Catholic…and for Catholic trustees to exemplify Catholicism. AMDG.

  4. I am sure St. Ignatius would not role over to this foolishness. He would be out there with the Little Sisters of the Poor!

  5. We Catholics need to stand up for our religious freedoms concerning the abortion and contraception mandates. Catholic Universities should be leaders in setting an example in speaking up for and following Catholic teachings.

    • Steubenville University is recognized as having a passionately Catholic environment. We must pray that LMU can achieve that status someday.

  6. LMU, fellow Catholic Alumni of LMU: At some point in time you must make a stand for your faith. Not in anger or arrogance but in prayerful recognition of the Almighty.

  7. To all trustees, president, faculty of Loyola Marymount:! If any of you are catholic and promoting or supporting planned parenthood you should resign from lmu. Abortion is murder.why are these pro- abortion groups allowed on campus. Change the name of your school to university of planned parenthood and stop smearing st ignatius of Loyola name with your promotion of murdering innocent babies in the womb
